Club's Trains

About Us

The group had its origins back in the early 80s, as an off-shoot of the Hornby Railway Collectors Club (UK). The early members were mainly O gauge enthusiasts with the likes of Peter, John, Bruce, Paul and Errol. There were also a couple of guys, such as Eddy whose interests were in Hornby Dublo, who joined the crew.

These early members had their own layouts and members would get together at each others places for running days etc.

Eventually they decided it would be a good opportunity to showcase the hobby, that a suitably sized layout would be constructed to be used to participate at local Model Train Shows etc.

The club put together a dismantlable 'O' gauge layout. Our ‘O’ Gauge layout displays toy train items made in Britain, Europe, USA and Australia – featuring popular brands including Hornby (by Meccano), Basset-Lowke, Marklin and Lionel, plus the locally made Ferris, Maurlyn, and Robilt.

Also an ‘OO’ scale layout was built. It features Hornby Dublo trains made in Britain by Meccano Limited from 1938 to 1964. This layout includes an extensive 3-rail tinplate track and the later 2-rail plastic-based track on the outside circuit, both with a working Post-Office mail bag delivery system. The trains are of British outline with mostly diecast locomotives and tinplate, or the later plastic rolling stock.

(Images of both layouts can be seen on the Photo Gallery page)
